Edith Levy

Edith Levy passed away peacefully on May 8, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was 90 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Renaldo Levy and a twin sister, Ruth Crofut. Edith (‘Edie’) was born on March 6, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey to Andrew Jackson Crofut and Edith Johnston Crofut. She grew up in Verona, New Jersey graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from Douglass College (now part of Rutgers University) in 1952. It was there that she met Renaldo (‘Ronny’) Levy and they married in September of that same year settling in Belle Mead, New Jersey (now Hillsborough) where she raised three children in their home of 60 years. In the summer of 2018, she moved in to an independent living facility in Atlanta, Georgia. Edith was an active member of Harlingen Reformed Church in Belle Mead, New Jersey where she served as an elder and participated in several groups, most recently the Quilters. Edith volunteered for several years at the Training School for Boys in Skillman, New Jersey, was a Cub Scout Leader for her sons, was a member of the Neshanic Garden Club, and served as a committee chair for the Douglass Alumni Association. She also supported a number of local charities, and was always quick to help a neighbor or friend in need. Edith was the loving mother of and survived by Suzanne Will (husband, Marlon) of Marietta, Georgia, Stephen A. Levy (wife, Patricia) of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Robert W. Levy (wife, Violeta) of Clinton, New Jersey. She was a wonderful and caring grandmother to Ryan B. Will of Washington, DC, Meagan E. Will of New York, New York, Krista Levy Hartrum (husband, Nathaniel) of Hampton, New Jersey and Mark S. Levy of Washington, DC, and a sister to Betty Ann Winston of Fryeburg, Maine. Most recently she was blessed to become a great-grandmother to Hazel Kennedy Hartrum also of Hampton, New Jersey. Edith was a loving wife, sister and a wonderful mother always putting others first. She was generous and kind with a smile and positive attitude that was easy to embrace. She will be dearly missed by many. The family is grateful for the wonderful staff of Somerby Sandy Springs who, for the last 18 months welcomed her into their home and always treated her with a smile, dignity, and respect. She enjoyed meeting new friends, the many fun-themed activities, trips, and ice cream socials. Edith will be laid to rest in Neshanic Cemetery, Hillsborough, New Jersey beside her beloved husband, Renaldo. A graveside service will be held later this week for immediate family only. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her family would like to thank all of their friends and relatives for their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
