Elizabeth Cobb Lawton McGee

Elizabeth Cobb Lawton McGee (Beth) of Marietta, Georgia passed away after a gallant long battle with heart failure on Thursday, November 11, 2021. Beth was the beloved wife of David James McGee and mother of Mary Cobb and David Lawton McGee. She is also survived by her parents George Wallace and Elizabeth Cobb Lawton (Betty Neel), her brother, George Wallace Lawton Jr and his wife Anne Lewis Lawton, niece Caroline Lawton, and nephews William and Robert Lawton of Vestavia Hills, AL. Beth was born in Atlanta, GA on October 11, 1974. She grew up in Marietta and graduated from Marietta High School where she was active in many activities. Starting in 1993, she attended the University of Mississippi where she made lifelong friends with her Delta Gamma Sorority sisters and graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in Hotel Management. Beth worked in hotel management, real estate, and most recently as a paraprofessional at Marietta City Schools’ Lockheed Elementary School. She was a member of the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta, Marietta First United Methodist Church, Lightseekers Sunday School Class and was a dedicated supporter of many church activities. She was a loyal Blue Devil and loved nothing more than cheering on her children as they followed in her footsteps at Marietta Middle and High School. She was so very proud of Mary Cobb and Lawton. Beth knew that she was blessed by having David as her husband and could often be found rooting him on in his latest and many athletic endeavors. Not only did Beth have a strong faith but she was sur-rounded by friends who did as well. She was a blessing from God and such an exam-ple especially during these last hard months. Through it all her most impressive quality was her complete surrender to God’s will. She was full of hope through the year and a half battle she waged with heart disease but yielded to God’s perfect plan. The funeral will be Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m. at Marietta First United Methodist Church, 360 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, Georgia 30060.
