Estelle S. Race

Grace Estelle Race was born May 18, 1925, in Atlanta, Georgia. She passed in Marietta, Georgia, May 7, 2015, preceded in death by two wonderful husbands, William “Bill” Suttles, and Kenneth Race, her son, William “David” Suttles and brother, Mac Arnold “Buddy” Snow. Estelle is survived by her grandchildren, Emily Suttles Schkud (husband Marc), William Mason Suttles & Matthew Suttles, sister-in-law Betty Snow, brothers-in-law Joe Suttles (wife Faye & their family), Mel Suttles (wife Roberta & their family), and Martha & Lewis Casey who were dear friends and became like family. Emily & The Caseys wish to express their great appreciation for the dedication, support and love shown to Estelle by the associates of Heritage of Sandy Plains as well as the Sandy Plains Baptist Church Community. Estelle was a life-long Georgia resident. She graduated from Girls High in Atlanta and maintained several lasting friendships from her school days. She had two great loves of her life and lost both of them too soon. She met Bill early in her adult life, and they raised their one and only son, David. Estelle later went on to have a successful career at Equifax where she also met and fell in love with her second husband, Ken. They loved to travel, especially if it was in the air on his prop plane, or to their cabin in the woods. She enjoyed music, particularly, hymns, and she had all of them memorized. She had a contagious sense of humor and was very social, whether at church events or playing hours of cards with good friends. Estelle was a true Christian, loving the Lord with all of her heart. In His image, she treated anyone she met like a life-long friend and was always so gracious to those who helped her. The world has lost a kind, witty, wonderful woman. A celebration of Estelle’s almost 90 years of life will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 2p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins in Marietta, 180 Church Street NE with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
