Evelyn Myers Sohn

Evelyn Myers Sohn, 94, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at her home with her family after a long illness. Sam, as she was often lovingly called by her family and friends, was a longtime and active member Cobb County Republican Women and twice was named the Cobb County Republican Woman of the Year. Her politics and those of her late husband Louis S. Sohn Jr., a devout Democrat, made for many interesting dinner and cocktail conversations. Mrs. Sohn also was an active member and trustee of Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, an active member and trustee of the Marietta Garden Club and a longtime member of the Hudgins Shakespeare Group. She was one of the first women to serve on the church vestry of St James Episcopal Church. As an avid golfer, she also served as president of Marietta Women’s Golf Association. She was the daughter of Hubert and Mary Gertrude Myers, and the granddaughter of Dr. Robert and Nola Kuglar of Forest Park, Ga. She attended Georgia State University and was active in school and student activities. She is survived by her son Louis S. Sohn III and daughter-in-law, Pam of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her daughter Dana Brown and son-in-law, Terry of Oklahoma City, Okla; four grandchildren: Sidney Smith of California; Mitch Sohn of Huntsville, Ala.; Shonna Cartmell of Oklahoma City; and Jennifer Godfrey of Oklahoma City; six great-grandchildren: Thurston and Eli Smith, Blake and Brittany Cartmell, and Mason and Grace Godfrey. Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at St. James Cemetery in Marietta. There will be a visitation held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. The family is extremely appreciative of the loving care given to Evelyn by Ruby Harrison, Barbara McClinton, Luciana Beasley, as well as Wellstar Hospice.
