Florence McCabe Muster

Florence McCabe Muster, 88, of Marietta formerly of Chatham, NJ passed away Monday, September 14, 2015. Born in Chatham, NJ, Florence attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School through the 8th grade. She later attended Chatham High School where she was Co-Captain of the Cheerleader Squad a baton twirler and was a member of the Chatham Bugle and Drum Corp where she was the Drum Majorette. After graduating in 1944, she attended All Souls Nursing School. She began her nursing career as a surgical nurse and ended up working at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. After returning to Chatham, she signed with a modeling agency, Harry Conover, in New York City. Her modeling career ended when she and her mother moved to Dunedin Florida following the death of her father in 1948. Florence met her husband, Walter, when he visited her brother Johnny, an Army buddy from WWII. After a short romance, they married and remained married for 45 years until Walter’s death in 2002. They made their home in Marietta in 1957 where a family business was started. Also in 1957, they joined St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where Florence was active in the Gingham Girls. After raising her three children - Joe, Jackie, and Robert - she began a career with Rich’s Department Store in the Silver Department and retired after a wonderful 20 years. She was dedicated to preparing her youngest son, Robert, for life as he was born with various health issues. She was by his side during every surgery and doctor visit over the last 48 years. She taught him to drive, prepared him for his GED, for employment, and the skills to run a household. She loved playing bridge and enjoyed always learning as you would always find a crossword puzzle by her side and on her final day in the home she had the Greek alphabet and the Constitution of the United States at her chair. Her greatest satisfaction, however, was enjoying the success of her family. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta with Monsignor Walsh officiating. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Survivors include two sons, Joe Muster and his wife, Nancy of Clemmons, NC, Robert Muster of Marietta, GA; one daughter, Jackie Muster Garvin and her husband, Bill of Marietta, GA; one sister, Helen Neely of Clearwater, FL; five grandchildren, Mary Muster, Jennifer Muster, Christina Muster, Abigale Garvin and Katherine Garvin. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter “Bubs” Muster.
