George Ronnie Barfield

On April 4,2019, George Ronnie Barfield, age 75 of Marietta Georgia departed this life and entered into the joys that awaited him in Heaven. At the time of his death he was a patient at Tranquility Kennesaw Mountain Hospice, a victim of pancreatic cancer. Ron, as he was known, was born January 6,1944 in Macon Georgia to Jesse and Euletha (Patterson) Barfield. He attended Willingham High School where, as a freshman he joined the track team, an interest he kept his entire life. At the age of 70 he began competing in the Senior Olympics where he won medals in both running and the long jump. Always an advocate for fitness, he could be seen most days running up and down Kennesaw Mountain or working out at Health Place. He was a member of Mount Paran Church of God in Atlanta where he served as an usher and on the Board of Elders. His greatest joy in life was telling people about God and praying for people. ln his Bible, he kept a folded sheet of legal paper where he wrote the names of everybody he was praying for. When asked why it took him so long to pray, he said, "Every morning I start with our family, then my family in Macon and my in laws, my friends, people I work with, then I start with the house on the right and pray for them, then on down the street until l have prayed for all our neighbors, my friends, people I meet and then the church, the pastors, politicians, the President and on...." Ron was a commercial contractor, noted for his integrity, punctuality and high standards of workmanship. ln over 40 years of business, he had only three call backs. He is survived by his wife, Reba (Mason) Barfield, three sons; Rob, of Atlanta, Jason (Kimberly) of Powder Springs, Georgia and David of Smyrna, and two daughters; Katherine of New York City and Mary Ann of Marietta; two grandsons, Asa and Gavin Barfield. He was predeceased by a six year old son, Daren. Also surviving are are his six siblings; brothers: Dennis (Sylvia) of Goose Creek SC, and Steve (Kim) of Macon, sisters; Glenda Heath, Pat White, Sharon Pelt (Freddy) and Sheila Garza (Clem) all of Macon. He also was a favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11am Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in the chapel of Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel with Pastor Todd Rainwater officiating, music will be provided by Mark Blankenship. Burial will be in Pineridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Kennesaw. Visitation will be held Monday from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the funeral home. While the family grieves our loss, we have the assurance that Ron was welcomed into his new home with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joys of thy Lord." And we have joy in the hope and knowledge that we will see him again.
