Dr. George Ferensick, 89, of Powder Springs, GA passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Mayes Ward Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, GA with Chaplain Steve Edwards officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in George’s name to Dementia Society of America at https://www.dementiasociety.org/ George is survived by his loving wife, Joan Ferensick of Powder Springs, GA. ; daughter, Kathleen Davis & husband Scott of Center Valley, PA; son, Scott Ferensick & wife Jennifer of Marietta, GA; brother, Donald Ferensick & wife Kyung of New Jersey; granddaughter, Lohgan Ferensick of Marietta, GA; grandsons, Luke Ferensick of Marietta, GA & Colin Davis of Center Valley, PA. George was born on Monday, November 6, 1933, in Passaic, NJ to Nicholas & Mary Ferensick. George married the love of his life and best friend, Joan Bridge Ferensick and they have had fifty-seven wonderful years together. George was a graduate of the University of Georgia, class of ’58, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. He attended Cornell University in 1959 to begin his Master’s degree and then transferred to NYU where he graduated with his Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1961. George’s highest academic achievement was reached in 1981 when he completed his Doctorate degree in Public Administration from New York University. George worked as the Director of city planning for the city of Paterson, NJ and retired after over 40 years of service. He enjoyed traveling around the United States with Joan as well as going on cruises. George was a certified pistol instructor for the NRA. He had a love of airplanes and ever since he was a young man, he enjoyed making airplanes out of balsa wood and continued to do this for his grandchildren. George loved baseball! His favorite team was the New York Yankee’s. As a young man he played semi-pro baseball on the Clifton Dodgers team. That year his uniform consisted of Duke Snider’s baseball jersey and Pee Wee Reese’s pants. His love of the game continued and when he had children, he enjoyed coaching their baseball and softball teams. George was a true family man, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. One of George’s true passions in life was drawing and painting. He enjoyed painting so much in fact that he bestowed his talent on to his grandchildren by giving them lessons. The family is blessed with many of his paintings. He was a hard worker and a good provider. George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His presence will be forever missed.
