Georgia Ann Vanis

Georgia Ann Vanis, 80, of Marietta passed away peacefully on March 2, 2023. She is predeceased by her high school sweetheart, loving husband, and devoted father of their three children, George J. Vanis. She leaves three daughters: Dawn Vanis, April Hennington, and Valerie Yielding (husband, Scott Yielding) along with four grandchildren: Georgia Lee Harrison Yielding, Ava Mae Hennington, George Henry Hennington, and Savannah Ray Yielding and two brothers: Lawrence Welch and John Welch, to cherish her precious memories. Georgia was born on August 28, 1942, in Dallas, Texas and was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She excelled in school and especially thrived in the subject of mathematics, graduating from the business school at Ohio State University. Georgia lived a life of service devoting thirty-eight years to the federal government of the United States Internal Revenue Service as a computer systems analyst where she traveled to many of their offices to work in various capacities on several projects. Georgia devoted eighty years to her family specifically as a volunteer for varied activities of her daughters, and in general, a staunch supporter with unconditional love for her daughters. Georgia loved staying active and healthy by walking her 10,000 steps daily and treading water in the pool during the summer months. She traveled to all fifty states and enjoyed traveling to many other parts of the world and learning about different cultures including Bermuda, Mexico, Romania, Greece, and the Czech Republic. She was an accomplished cook winning an award from the University of Georgia for her spinach squares and famed baker; her fudge brownies are legendary. We will forever cherish the sweet years God gave us with this extraordinary, innovative woman. Here’s to a wonderful mom, wife, Gigi, daughter, friend, neighbor, volunteer, alto in the church choir, churchgoer, and a person who charmed everyone she met with her stellar sense of humor, talented Toastmaster storytelling, and sweet smile. “Well done, good and faithful servant,” Mom. Well done. We thank God for the days we had with you, and the ways you’ve blessed the world during these eighty years. You are our world, and you will be missed tremendously until we meet again in Heaven. A celebration of life service will occur on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM and be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta with a pool party to follow.
