Gladys Irene Brown

Gladys Voyles Brown, 89, of Marietta left this earth to join her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 28, 2011. She is survived by three devoted grandchildren, Bridget Davis, Eileen Johnson, and Phillip Arnold; and five great-grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost sixty-five years, Norman Brown; her parents, Mary Lou and Everett Voyles; 6 siblings, Clara, Myrtie, Minnie, Era Belle, Pete, and Carrie Lou; all originally from Marietta, Georgia. Gladys retired from years at Kennestone Hospital, then worked part time as a housekeeper at St. Joseph Church’s rectory, and was always a devoted and loving housewife. She and her husband, Norman, warmly welcomed friends, neighbors, and family into their home on Moon Street that raised grandchildren and built wonderful and happy memories for all. Gladys and Norman were active members for over 40 years of Roselane Baptist Church, now GracePointe, in Marietta. They faithfully ran the Benevolence Committee together working hard to get up food for grieving families, sometimes delivering to their homes and other times serving it at church. Gladys and Norman served and cooked in the kitchen of the Fellowship Hall year after year for Pancake Breakfasts & Hot Dog dinners for charities, and other parish events. They doted on their grandchildren and great grandchildren who visited them often. These children were the passion of their lives, a Godsend to them in their later years, and continued to tenderly care for Gladys upon Norman’s passing. Gladys was also supported and visited by her nieces and nephews, Betty, Evelyn, Eloise, Jack, Neal, Frank, Kenny, Joyce Ann, Richard, and Eugene. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning, November 2, from 10:00 to 11:00 with a Funeral Service with Buck Reese officiating following in the Chapel at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, who is handling all funeral arrangements. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 1752 Macland Road, Marietta. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gladys Brown’s name to GracePointe Baptist Church, 505 Atlanta Street, Marietta, GA 30060.
