Glen Erik Thor, 75 of Powder Springs, GA passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel with Rev. Brandon Owen Officiating. Glen is survived by his wife, Glynda Stripling Thor; children, Christopher Thor (Jennifer), Kirk Frazier (Mical), Glen Erik Thor II, Kevin Frazier and Dana Thor (Nick Salsman); seven grandchildren and his sister, Mary Thor Bennett. He is also survived by many loving extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Svend Erik Thor and Irene Wilhelmina Raabe Thor, and his brother Jack Alan Thor. Glen was born March 12, 1948 in Norfolk, NE. His family moved to Fremont, NE where he graduated from Fremont high school in 1966. He attended The University of Nebraska and was a lifelong Cornhusker fan. His career in the lighting industry began at Valmont Industries in Valley, Nebraska. Initially hired as a supervisor, he was soon recognized for his leadership and ability to work well with people and was promoted to a sales position. In 1983, he was hired by Cooper Lighting, Cooper Industries, and rose to National Business Development Manager, Western Area Sales VP at Cooper Industries. Glen held other leadership positions at Magnetek, and Ballantyne Strong. He retired in March 2014 and continued to live in Cobb County, GA until his passing, As a young man, he loved playing tennis and riding his road bike. He continued to ride his bicycle throughout his life and into retirement. He always loved travel and made many trips to Hawaii and Europe for business and pleasure. He was a great home chef and delighted in cooking for family and friends. He had eclectic taste in music, listening to genres from opera to The Beach Boys. He generally loved life and celebrated his family members and his many friendships with love, high energy and always had a positive outlook. He was also an avid reader, and history was his favorite subject. Glen’s grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved every stage of seeing them grow up and was so proud to be their “Pop”, to the little ones, and “Grandpa” to the older ones. In retirement Glen was a dedicated supporter of Shepherd’s Men, an organization founded to raise awareness and support of the SHARE Military Initiative. This nationally renowned program focuses on assessment and treatment for American military veterans who have sustained mild to moderate Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during post-9/11 service. Glen served on the inaugural team in 2014 and continued to provide logistical support for the annual multi-state campaigns to raise funds which supported the annual SHARE operating budget. It was a cause dear to Glen, and he devoted many happy hours to it. Glen was a member of First Baptist Church Marietta and the FISH Sunday School class. The family will receive friends on Saturday, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
