Guy W. Ocheltree, Jr., 92 of Powder Springs passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Lost Mountain Baptist Church in Powder Springs with Dr. Blake McKenny officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery. Mr. Ocheltree was born on April 25, 1918, in Seattle, Washington and has been living in Powder Springs for the past 53 years. He was the son of the late Guy W. and Jennie Ocheltree of Pasadena, California. Guy’s family moved from Seattle to California when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Pasadena College and then served two years in the United States Navy. He then joined Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, where he advanced the ranks to management. Guy transferred to Lockheed Georgia in 1953, where he met Carole Pearson, who became his wife in 1954. He retired from Lockheed in 1980 after 42 years of service. Guy was a long-time member of Lost Mountain Baptist Church, where he chaired and served on multiple committees. He also gave freely of his time for mission trips and work. His son, Greg, was in Boy Scout Troop 540 and Guy worked tirelessly assisting the troop leaders. After retiring at age 62 from Lockheed, Guy and Carole started a Christmas tree farm business, which they enjoyed for over 20 years. Guy enjoyed many activities- reading, traveling, camping, fishing, waterskiing, gardening – and was a friend to many. He fiercely loved his family and they in turn loved him. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carole, daughter & son-in-law, April & Bob Merickle of California, their sons, Mike and Jim and their families; son and daughter-in-law, Greg & Donna, and their son, Pearson and daughter, Angela; and niece & husband, Robin & Jim Rook. Guy leaves a legacy of love and kindness that lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
