Harper Lane Dolvin, Sr

Harper Lane Dolvin Sr., 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Annabelle Dolvin, and his cousin whom he was raised with, Elsie Moses. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Eleanor Dolvin, his four daughters, Debbie Dolvin, Barbara Jones, Elizabeth Vesey and Debra Vesey, a son, Harper Lane Dolvin Jr., nine grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Harper was born December 3, 1923, in Atlanta, Georgia to E. Lane Dolvin and Lila Harper Dolvin. He grew up in Atlanta with his cousin, Elsie; the pair were very close and resembled siblings more than cousins. Like many men during World War II, Harper was young and drafted into the U.S. Armed Forces. He served for two years in the 8 th Air Force, 445 th Bomb Group, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1945. After the war, Harper settled down with his first wife, Annabelle, and began his life-long career owning a successful used car business in Atlanta, Georgia. He shared 55 years of marriage and two children with Annabelle until she passed in 2002 from Alzheimer’s. Throughout his life, Harper was very involved in church and was a proud member of his local Kiwanis Club. Later in life, he met his second wife, Eleanor. They spent the past 16 years traveling the world together and displaying the kind of love we should all aspire to achieve. Harper loved many things. He loved golf. The only thing that could stop him from playing was the weather. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. He had a great sense of humor, always ready to bring a smile to someone’s face. He loved to sing. He would often be heard humming a tune or singing a song, especially if it was too quiet. He loved sweets. He never passed up a dessert. Not a day went by where he didn’t enjoy a hot cup of coffee. He loved traveling. He made the world his oyster always seeking the next adventure. Most of all, he loved his wife, family and friends unconditionally. The visitation and memorial service will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home.
