Harriet Levins Smith

Harriet L. Smith, 81, departed this wonderful world and began her eternal life in Heaven on March 21, 2012, with her family by her side, and is now holding her predeceased infant, Arty. All is well with her soul. Harriet was born on February 15, 1931 and moved from Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Marietta in 1954 and married the late Ben F. Smith Sr. Harriet was an active member of The First United Methodist Church for 57 years where she served Jesus with simple acts of kindness and service in numerous leadership positions. One of her greatest joys was serving as the Wedding Director at First United Methodist Church. Harriet was the first elected female Western District Commissioner of Cobb County, President of the Cobb County Democratic Women and the 4 Seasons Garden Club and a member of numerous other civic organizations. Harriet lived her Christian faith through active love to better the lives of others. Harriet is survived by her daughter and son, Lori Smith and Ben F. Smith Jr., her grandchildren, Heather Geiger and Benjamin F. Smith, III, her great-grandchildren, Lexi, Bunny, Aiden and Addison, her grandson-in-law Robby Geiger, her nieces Yvonne Dismukes (Keith) Demopolis, Alabama and Susan Bell, Marietta, her nephew Dennis (Debi) Levins, Piedmont, Alabama, and David (Dedee) Bell, Bogart, Georgia, her “sister” Myrtle Hubbard, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceeded in physical death by her husband, Ben F. Smith, Sr., her infant son, Arthur Cleveland Smith, and many other loving family members. The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at The First United Methodist Church, 56 Whitlock Avenue, Marietta, Georgia, followed by a graveside service at Kennesaw Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home who is in charge of the arrangements – 770-428-1511.
