Henry H. Wade

Henry H. Wade, 78, died early Sunday morning of a heart attack, February 8, 2009. Henry Wade was born July 16, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He received his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University (Oklahoma A&M) in 1952 and his M.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Wichita State University in 1958. He was a member of Chi Epsilon national honorary civil engineering society, Sigma Tau national honorary engineering fraternity, and American Society of Civil Engineers and Phi Delta Theta social fraternity. Henry served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Korean War. He worked for McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, MO, Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS and led various structural engineering groups at Lockheed from 1962 until his retirement in 1989. Upon his retirement, he worked as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and also served as a consultant to the FAA. He maintained a keen interest in sailing since he was 4 years old first crewing for his father. He even owned a sailboat before owning his first car. He was a member of the Atlanta Yacht Club since 1962 where he served as Commodore in 1986. He actively raced Snipe sailboats with his wife serving as his crew for over 40 years. He fulfilled a life-long dream of owning and sailing his thirty-foot sloop, “Bailiwick” where he and his wife explored the Eastern Coast as well as the Caribbean Islands. Henry is a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mitzi Wade of Marietta, Georgia. He was preceded in death by a son, Skip Wade in 1978. Other survivors include Orie Wade (Pam) of Marietta, Peggy Wade Padgett (Greg) of Marietta and Polly Wade Fisher (Jim), of Greenville, South Carolina. His much loved grandchildren include Katy and Alex Padgett of Marietta, and Ashley and Andrew Fisher of Greenville, South Carolina. A brother, Bill Wade of Clearwater Florida also survives. Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Mission Work, 189 Church Street, Marietta, Georgia 30060. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, February 10 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. The family will have a private service at a later date.
