Jack Adam

Jack Adam, 79, of Kennesaw, died Saturday, January 7, 2012. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11, at First Presbyterian Church, Marietta, with Rev. Denise Beltzner officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. John Martin Adam (Jack) was born February 16, 1932, in Johnstone, Scotland. Jack and Margaret Adam moved from Scotland in 1967, where Jack was employed as an engineer with Rolls-Royce Aero Engine Division, to Marietta to work for Lockheed-Georgia. For more than thirty years, Jack has been owner of Adco Plastics in Marietta, an injection molding company, now run by his son, Robert. Jack was drafted for two years into the British Army to serve in the R.E.M.E., Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers where he was assigned to the sharpshooting team of the regiment. His regiment, he was proud to say, was awarded the most cups, medals, etc. ever for one regiment against the other. Jack and Margaret were proud of their Scottish heritage and enjoyed being members of the St. Andrews Society of Atlanta, The House of Gordon Society, The Burns Club of Atlanta, the Royal Scottish Dance Society, The English Speaking Union, and Marietta Country Club, where both of them not only loved the great sport of golf, but spent many evenings dancing and socializing with their many friends. Jack was an excellent ballroom dancer and many of Margaret's friends loved to be on his dance program! For many years they were involved in the Georgia Symphony Orchestra, formerly the Cobb Symphony, and Margaret's garden club, Woodbine Garden Club. He also enjoyed golfing at their mountain home at Big Canoe. Jack loved his family and their grandchildren and was much loved by all who knew him as a generous, fun loving, happy-go-lucky friend. He had a keen sense of wit and although many of his good friends did not always catch his thick, Scottish brogue, they loved his company. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, including dear friends in Scotland, England, and Australia, and although he loved his native land, he more than loved this great country and the graciousness of the South, especially the weather!! The family extends their gratitude to the special people who took great care of Jack and helped us through these difficult years: Garland Williams, Sandra Campbell, and Jack’s dear friend, Harry Vaughn, who never missed a week of having lunch (and a few beers) with Jack. Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Adam, Kennesaw; daughter, Lesley Flores & husband, Dan, Atlanta; son, Robert Adam & wife, Amy, Marietta; sister, Jean Cuthbert, Johnstone, Scotland; brother, Martin Adam, Glasgow, Scotland; seven grandchildren, Adam Flores, Ralston Flores, Jackson Flores, Harrison Flores, Alison Adam, Lindsay Adam and Drew Adam. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jacqueline.
