Joan Wooten Glover

Joan Wooten Glover, 93, of Marietta, GA passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024. Joan was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, and spent her last two years of high school in Coral Gables, Florida (Miami), where she was not only a dedicated student but also a model at the prestigious John Powers Modeling Agency, gracing the December calendar as their top choice. Joan continued her education at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where she was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority, the National Honor Society, and the Village Vamps. Although Joan had begun a course of study in home economics, her journey took a new path when she married before she could complete her degree. Throughout her life, she remained deeply committed to her family, friends, and community. She was a long-time member of the Cherry Laurel Garden Club, the Marietta Country Club, and the Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society. Joan studied voice under Lillian Sullivan Benett, former singer for The Metropolitan Opera, and for years was the soloist singing O Holy Night at church Christmas Eve services. Joan was also a founding member of Grace Community Church in Marietta, where she taught Sunday school for over 35 years and was known for her dedication to service and her love of fellowship. A loving wife, mother, and friend, Joan’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband of 74 years, James Bolan "Bo" Glover, IV; son, James Bolan 'Jim' Glover, V; her daughter, Anne Glover Cundiff (Tim); grandchildren Aimee Dunwody Berry (Tyler), Lauren Heyward Russell (Matthew), and great-grandchildren Sawyer Oak and Everleigh Heyward Russell as well as other extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, with Pastor John I. Harris officiating. Joan will be interred at Mountain View Park Cemetery with private graveside rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:55 PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Joan’s warmth, grace, and spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Samaritans Purse (samaritanspurse.org)
