Joanne Ruth Carrington Walker

MARIETTA-Joanne Ruth Carrington Walker, 93, passed away on August 21, 2022 at Arbor Terrance of Burnt Hickory in Marietta. She was born in Buffalo, New York on April 6, 1929, the daughter of William Alfred and Grace Bernhart Carrington. Joanne moved to Marietta in 1943 when her father took a position as Manager for Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1947, where she enjoyed a very full social life. She attended Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Virginia. She then returned to Marietta and accepted a position with Southern Bell Telephone Company. She married the love of her life, Benjamin Davis Walker, on February 2, 1951. They celebrated 61 years of marriage together in 2012. Davis and Joanne successfully raised four sons during their lives. Joanne loved her family, her hometown, and her friends. She was a member of the Marietta Junior League, the Cherry Laurel Garden Club, Marietta Country Club, and several bridge clubs in Marietta. She was a life-long member of St. James Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild for several decades. She was an incredibly loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and an amazing cook and gracious hostess. In addition to her parents and her husband, Joanne was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Carrington Routhier, and a brother, Michael David Carrington. She is survived by her brother, William Joel Carrington of Marietta, her four sons, Robert Davis Walker, MD, (Pamela) of Raleigh, North Carolina, William John Walker of Buford, Georgia, Benjamin Todd Walker (Kimberly) of Marietta, and Craig Carrington Walker (Cameron) of Jacksonville, Florida. She was beloved Mimi to her nine grandchildren, Sarah Walker Baker (Jason) of Raleigh, Emily Walker Rowland (Brandon) of Arlington, Virginia, Austin Davis Walker of Atlanta, William Benjamin Walker (Rachel) of Marietta, Mackenzie Walker Wahba (Nadar) of Atlanta, Morgan Ashley Walker of Gainesville, Florida, Craig Carrington Walker, Jr. of Jacksonville, Hunter Chappell Walker (Abigail) of Jacksonville, and Cameron Perry Walker of Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, she is survived by eight great-grandchildren, Davis Guy Baker, James Carrington Baker, Ballard Agnes Baker, Robert Hawes Baker, Elizabeth Ann Wahba, Isabella Anna Wahba, Sarah Louise Rowland, and William Nathan Walker. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 161 Church St NW, Marietta, Georgia 30060 at 12pm am on August 24, , followed by a visitation at the church . Burial will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Funeral arrangements are by Mayes Ward Funeral Home of Marietta. Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta.
