John David Swift

John David Swift, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 28th, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family and in the comforting presence of God. John was born on December 10, 1942, to Lucille and Frank Swift. He grew up in Lakeland, FL and Macon, GA and attended Lanier High School for Boys. Known for his kind heart, unwavering integrity, and gentle spirit, John's devotion to his family and friends was evident in every aspect of his life. After graduating from University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) receiving a Masters Degree in Political Science, and serving on the Executive Staff of the Sigma Pi Fraternity. John embarked on a successful career in City Management and Investment Banking. Serving as City Manager of Dalton and Decatur, GA and Hope, AR, as well as banking tenures with Arch Roberts, Raymond James and Merchant Capital. His dedication and hard work earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. He approached every challenge with determination and a positive attitude, inspiring those around him to do the same. Outside of his professional life, John had a passion for wine, duck hunting, snow skiing and running. Whether he was spending time outdoors, pursuing his favorite hobbies, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, John found joy in the simple moments of life. John's greatest pride and joy were his family. He shared a deep and loving bond with his wife of 53 years, Terry Swift, and their three children, Jack, Shannon and David, their spouses Lisa, Jim and Leylan, and six grandchildren, Hunter, Aiden, Jack, Bella, Benjamin, and Ellie. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever. John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, warmth, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us each day. A celebration of John's life will be held on June 15th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Catherine's Episcopal Church in Marietta, GA.
