Johnnie Ray Acree Sr

Johnnie R. Acree of Macon, Ga and formerly of Marietta, GA died February 18, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 PM Saturday, February 22nd at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. The family will receive friends 2-2:55 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Friday at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dianne Williams Acree, his son, Johnnie Ray Acree Jr., his father, Jones Allen Acree; mother, Ruby Smith Acree; five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by two sons, Charles Kevin Acree and Mark Ryan Acree (son Christopher); brothers Jerry Acree and Ken Acree, sisters Brenda Seale, Dianne Elder, and Jean Tucker; two granddaughters, Jessica Lusk and Brittany Acree; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A believer in Jesus Christ, he attended Milford Baptist Church in Marietta and Pleasant Grove Baptist in Elijay. He was born in Jesup, Ga, raised in Marietta, where he lived until retirement. After retiring he moved to Ellijay, Georgia where he lived for many years before moving to Macon to live with his son in 2022. He was employed by General Motors in the Information Technology Department for 25 years. After retiring from General Motors he worked for Gilmer County School System as a custodian and security guard. He was an avid sports fan and coached youth sports for many years. He also umpired baseball and softball. He coached all three of his sons in multiple sports. He was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan. He enjoyed classic cars, owning a ’55 and ’56 Chevy during his lifetime. Golf, gardening, and traveling with his family were some of his greatest pleasures. He was an avid dog lover, especially his favorite dog Elvis, who never left his side. His family was his greatest treasure, being active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Through his sense of humor, he spread joy to those around him… his family, players he coached, students and teachers where he worked.
