Joy Fitzpatrick, 81, of Canton, Georgia passed away peacefully on Friday, March 3, 2023 in Canton, Georgia. A memorial service will be held in her honor at a later date and can be accessed through the below listed link. Family has asked in lieu of flowers that donation be made in memory of Joy to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org. Joy is survived by her daughter, Sandra Johnson and wife Janie of Blanco, New Mexico; grandson, T.J. Johnson of Bloomfield, New Mexico; nieces, Karen West of Powder Springs, Georgia and D.J. Schmidt and husband Jim of Marietta, Georgia; nephew, Bill D. Marcum and wife Bonnie of Valrico, Florida; great nephew Chad West of Owego, New York; great nieces, Sunny Ayala and husband Alfredo of Rockmart, Georgia and Wendy Davis and husband Stephen of Dallas, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wesley Fitzpatrick; sister Jan Jenson; brother, Bill A. Marcum. Joy Marcum Fitzpatrick was born on Monday, August 4, 1941, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to George and Maybelle Marcum. She began her career in the title and escrow business in the early 1960s and then later became an instructor for real estate law in the 1990s. After moving to Georgia, she was employed by Capitus (formerly called Georgia Institute of Real Estate) since January 1999. She was involved in the Georgia Real Estate Educators Association and received the Robert R. Jones Distinguished Career Award in 2019. She was Extremely well respected and loved by realtors, educators, and the students she taught. She was hard working and efficient in everything she did, no matter how big or small the task. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed family gatherings in her home. She was a loyal friend, a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. Joy had a passion for Dobermans and raised many for their entire lives. She loved living out in the country and taking in the fresh air or listening to a babbling brook. She enjoyed quilting and shopping, especially with a partner. We all remember fondly her tenacious personality and great sense of humor. There was always a laugh to be had when you spent time with her. Her presence will be forever missed.
