Judy McArthur

Judith (Ms. Judy) Ann McArthur, 72, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 10:05 in the evening after a sudden battle with cancer. She was born in Covington, Kentucky on October 22, 1949. Judy was preceded in death by her parents Edith (Helterbridle) and Gerry Butler, and her beloved brother Jerry “Wayne” Butler. She is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter Cara (Tony) Bush; son Jonathan (Shannon) McArthur; grandchildren Cassidy and Alexander McArthur; sisters Donna (George) Cobbe, Debbie (Moose) Schuler, and Brenda Gwin; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends that have become family and loved her dearly. In Fifth grade, she moved to Forest Park, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Greenhills High School in 1967. She then went on to work for Cincinnati Bell as a service representative. During her junior year of high school, she met the love of her life (although she didn’t realize it at the time), Thomas “Dale” McArthur. They were married on September 18, 1971. That November, she moved to Yalava, Turkey to join Dale who was serving in the United States Air Force. While there, they became parents to their first child, Cara Michelle, on September 22, 1973. In December of 1974, they moved back to Cincinnati. On June 24, 1976, their second child, Jonathan (Jon) Scott, was born. Over the next sixteen years they moved around with the railroad to places such as Lima, OH; Newark, OH; Ft. Ashby, WV; Catlettsburg, KY and finally landed in Acworth, GA February of 1992. Judy was a loving and devoted stay-at-home mom for the majority of Cara and Jon’s childhood. After moving to Georgia, she started as the assistant director and cook at Primrose School of Pine Mountain until quickly being promoted to director of the school. She was able to share her love of raising kids for nearly 20 more years, hence her title of “Ms. Judy”. She retired to become her all-time favorite title “Mamo” in 2006 when her first grandchild, Cassidy Paige, entered the world. Her heart only grew bigger again in 2009 when Alexander “Alex” Thomas was born. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her life. Judy was an active member of Due West United Methodist Church for over thirty years. She was an active member of the music ministry, Sunday School (children and adult), Bible Study Small Groups, Discipleship, and her most recent honor of serving as a Congregational Care Minister. She not only talked the talk, but walked the walk on a daily basis. Judy was truly the hands and feet of Jesus. She served in many positions in both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts while Cara and Jon were growing up. The family will receive friends at the Celebration of Life Service which will be held at Due West United Methodist Church at 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 11. Interment to follow on Monday, June 27 at 9:00 AM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Murphy Harpst Children’s Center, 740 Fletcher St., Cedartown, GA 30125. Judy loved to volunteer there and support their ministries along side her family.
