Kip Jon Garwood

Kip Jon Garwood, 52, of Acworth passed away Monday, February 29th, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home on Church Street in Marietta with Pastor Ric Cadle officiating. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Garwood of Acworth; daughter, Bailee Garwood of Atlanta, son, Grant Garwood of Acworth; his mother, Gale Garwood of Bethel Park, PA, his father, Jack Garwood and his wife, Nancy of The Villages, FL; brothers, Jack Garwood and his wife, Mary Fran of Pittsburgh, PA, Buzz Garwood and his wife, Becky of Bethel Park, PA; sisters, Tammy Weger and her husband, Jamie of Bradenton, FL, Jodi Bewick and her husband, Rick of McMurray, PA; grandmother, Selma Labs of Bethel Park, PA. Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Kip grew up in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. He swam competitively all of his young life and earned a swim scholarship to West Virginia University. Kip graduated from WVU with a degree in Engineering in 1986 and began working for Lockheed Martin, where he remained for his entire career of 30 years. What Kip loved most was being a family man. He was so proud of his family and over the past year enjoyed celebrating his daughter's graduation from college, his son's graduation from high school, as well as celebrating he and his wife's 25th wedding anniversary. Kip enjoyed the simple things in life such as gardening, bird watching, traveling to the beach, and cooking. Kip was an amazing cook and one of the things friends and family cherish most are the wonderful memories created around the dinner table at the Garwood home. Kip was also a world traveler having traveled throughout Europe as well as to Oman and Saudi Arabia with Lockheed. “That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much.” This is how Kip lived his life! How blessed we all have been to have him in our lives. Kip did everything with integrity and left an unforgettable mark on every life he touched. He was calm, steady, honorable, committed, genuine, and strong! We will never forget his quick wit, huge smile and big heart!
