Larry Franklin Fisher Sr.

Larry Franklin Fisher, Sr., 84, of Hiram, GA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in Marietta, GA, on Saturday, October 18, 2025. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, GA, with Rev. Chip Strickland officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM prior to the service on Monday. The interment service with military honors will take place at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Larry Fisher was born in Goldtown, West Virginia, to Thaddius and Audrey Fisher. He accepted responsibility at a young age when his father lost a leg in a fire that also claimed the life of his older brother, Jimmy Fisher, and left his father incapacitated for an extended period of time. The family later moved from West Virginia to Albany, Georgia, in the late 1950s. There, Larry met Sandra Fisher, his loving wife of 62 years, until her passing in 2023. In 1960, Larry received a draft notice from the Army but instead chose to join the U.S. Air Force. He spent the next 21 years serving in maintenance, scheduling, and logistics roles, rising to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). During his distinguished career, he was stationed in Texas, California, Nevada, Great Britain, Libya, Thailand (three years during the Vietnam War), Germany, and Florida. After retiring from the Air Force, Larry spent six years in Saudi Arabia with McDonnell Douglas, supporting the Royal Saudi Air Force on F-15 maintenance and logistics. Upon returning to the United States in 1987, he briefly worked in civil service at Warner Robins Air Force Base before returning overseas for another four years with BDM International, Inc., again in Saudi Arabia. In 1993, Larry accepted a position in Taiwan with ARINC Corporation, assisting in the development of the Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF) aircraft. After spending approximately 25 years living and working abroad, he and Sandra returned permanently to the United States in 1997. In 2004, he retired from ARINC to care for Sandra during her illness. Following her recovery, he returned to work with CPI Aero structures, serving another ten years as a liaison to maintenance and procurement personnel at Warner Robins AFB. Larry devoted countless hours to helping Air Force veterans who served at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base during the Vietnam War obtain deserved and necessary VA benefits. He created detailed maps and templates to document Agent Orange exposure, enabling many veterans to successfully navigate the complex VA claims process and receive vital assistance. He also provided “buddy letters” to help veterans substantiate their service and exposure, ensuring they had credible firsthand documentation in support of their claims. Family and his beloved dogs were the most important parts of Larry’s life. He made many sacrifices to care for those he loved, and his life was filled with laughter, travel, service, and adventure. He cherished the time he spent with his family, telling stories, wood working, and performing home maintenance, He was a man of faith, enjoyed being a part of a church family and singing in the choir. He recently became active in his neighborhood, playing cards, attending Bible study and making new friends. We are at peace knowing he is now reunited with his beloved Sandy. Larry is survived by his two sons, Larry Franklin Fisher, Jr. (Sherri) of Jefferson, MD, and Clifford Douglas Fisher (Cheryl) of Dallas, GA; his brother, John Fisher of Georgetown, GA; his sister, Ramona Kay Angle (Tommy) of St. Augustine, FL; three grandchildren, Sara Nicole Fisher (Harry Fogle) of Marietta, GA, Kendall Brittany Simons (Ryan) of Leonardtown, MD, and Madelyn Shea Fisher of Dallas, GA; one great-grandson, Coltyn Able Simons, and a great-granddaughter on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandy, his parents, brother (Jimmy) and sister (Karen). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any charitable organization of your choice.
