Linda Lee Davis

Linda Lee Davis, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18th at her home in Marietta, GA. A loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Linda Lee was born on May 13, 1939, at the DeJulia Maternity Home in Fort Edward, NY. She graduated from Mineola High School in 1957, Manhattanville College in 1961, and pursued additional education later in life at Harvard University, Adelphi University, and The Dante Alighieri Society of MA. Linda Lee lived in Manhattan during her early career, working in art history, advertising, and magazine publishing, including her role as Managing Editor for The Jesuit magazine. After the birth of her daughter, Linda Lee moved to Vermont where she led The Bennington Women’s Project. She later pursued a career as a litigation paralegal in New York and Boston, working at Flemming, Zulack, & Williamson and at WilmerHale, where she focused on environmental law and intellectual property. After retirement, Linda Lee moved to Georgia to pursue her most beloved calling - being a grandmother. She spent the last eighteen years of her life making her family’s saying, “everything’s good at Granny’s house,” a reality. A devout Catholic, Linda Lee derived joy from her church involvement, participating in varied roles in the CHRP workshop and leading her parish’s Centering Prayer group. Her love for Italy was a shaping force in her life. She lived in Florence and Rome after college where she studied art history and she visited Italy often with family and friends. She pursued mastery of the language throughout her life through courses, study groups, and teaching others. Additional passions included reading, art history, baking, and the New York Times Crossword. Linda Lee is survived by daughter Robin Ward Miller, son-in-law, Jonathan Miller, granddaughter Ava, and step-grandchildren Andrew and Madeline of Roswell Georgia; sister Dr. Laurel Senger of Marietta, GA; sister Melissa Davis (Cheryl) of Clifton Park, NY; nieces Alexis Smith of Plainfield, VT and Jenna Smith Stout (Henry) of Rhinebeck, NY; nephew Adam Smith of Brooklyn, NY; and by many cousins and great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a long list of friends with whom she shared travel, museum excursions, theatre and ballet outings, and weekly Italian conversation. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sue Eleanor Crandall Davis of Waterford, NY and Lindon Lee Davis of Fort Miller, NY. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 14th at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral home in downtown Marietta, GA. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 PM. The funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, November 15th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta. The family would like to invite you to a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations in Linda Lee’s name be made to MUST Ministries in Marietta, GA or St. Vincent de Paul Georgia.
