Malcolm Grant McCarn

Malcolm Grant McCarn, 70, of Marietta was called home June 6, 2019. Malcolm was born May 31, 1949 to Rev. P.H. and Lillie Mae McCarn in Wilmington, NC. They moved frequently throughout Malcolm’s childhood due to his father being a Church of God Pastor and State Overseer. Malcolm graduated high school in 1967 from Sevier County High School in Sevierville, TN. He attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 1971. Malcolm moved to Smyrna, GA where he initially worked at Rich’s Department Store and later managed a men’s clothing store. On Father’s Day, June 15, 1975 his daughter Courtney Lynn was born. Malcolm attended Marshall Law School in Atlanta, GA and officially became an attorney in 1976. He practiced as a criminal defense attorney in Atlanta for several years before returning to Knoxville, TN. Malcolm became a professor at Pellissippi State Community College teaching accounting and business law, later becoming director of admissions. This is also where he met the love of his life, Lynnbeth Penny. Malcolm and Lynnbeth married in 1985 and in 1988 had their first born, Travis Ryan in Knoxville, TN. They soon moved to Marietta, GA where Malcolm partnered with his brother, Jerry McCarn. In 1990 their second son, Brandon Price, was born and 20 months later their daughter, Abby Renee. Malcolm went on to work as the Business Administrator at Mount Paran North Church of God in 1995. He was an integral part of establishing Mount Paran North as an independent church. After several years, Malcolm returned to the corporate world as General Counsel for a plastic bottle manufacturing company, CKS Packaging. In addition to his career, Malcolm was involved and on the board for many non-profit organizations. He taught Sunday school, coached baseball, and LOVED estate sales. He was very family oriented and loved to have his family around him. He was blessed to have four grandsons who he loved and adored. Later in life, Malcolm enjoyed playing scrabble and ping-pong with friends weekly. He enjoyed designing and building projects around the house, which were always in progress. Malcolm never met a stranger. His smile was contagious and his loving spirit spread to anyone around him. He had a mischievous nature that everyone enjoyed. We will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. P.H. and Lille McCarn; brothers, Richard McCarn; Jerry McCarn. Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Lynnbeth McCarn; daughters, Courtney (David) Niemann, Abby Housel; sons, Travis McCarn, Brandon (Megan) McCarn; grandsons, Justin Niemann, Tyler Niemann, Riley Housel, Mason McCarn; sisters, Doris Munn and Nancy Dinnin. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 14th, at Mount Paran North Church of God (1700 Allgood Road Marietta, GA 30062). The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and a reception will follow the service.
