Marilyn Sue Comstock Grooms

Marilyn Sue Comstock Grooms, age 72 passed away September 5, 2008 in Woodstock, Georgia. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta with Rev. John Matajek with a private burial at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. Mrs. Grooms, the daughter of Freddie B. and Willie Dean Baron Comstock, was born August 2, 1936 in Dyer, Tennessee. She later resided in Batesville, AR and graduated from Batesville High School in 1955. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for several years in Batesville and Jonesboro, AR. Mrs. Grooms was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother, and wife who accompanied her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy R. Grooms, U.S. Army (Retired) to various duty stations, including Puerto Rico; Okinawa, Japan; Washington, D.C., Indiana, Kansas and Georgia during his 24 years of military service. She enjoyed traveling and visited Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Mexico and Italy. For their 50th Wedding Anniversary, she and her husband, Jim, traveled to the Eastern Mediterranean where they toured the Greek Islands of Mykonos; Rhodes and Santorini; Athens, Greece; and Ephesus and Istanbul in Turkey. Mrs. Grooms was an accomplished artist and decorative painter, and she and her husband presented her art work at numerous art and craft fairs throughout the Southeast for over 20 years. She was a member of the National Society of Decorative Painters and a member of the Atlanta Dogwood Chapter of the SDP. She and her family resided in the Atlanta, GA area for 29 years. She is survived by her husband and by two sons, David, Oak Brook, IL; Frederic, Columbia, SC; a daughter, Alicia Grooms Hebert, Acworth, GA; a sister, Judy Geimer, Woodstock, GA; a brother, Robert Comstock, Hazelhurst, GA; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Grooms was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie B. Comstock and Willie Dean Baron Comstock of West Plains, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association S. E. Affiliate, P.O. Box 409410, Atlanta, GA 30384-9410 or to Transfiguration Catholic Church, Building Fund, 1815 Blackwell Road, N.E., Marietta, GA 30066-2911.
