Today we are rejoicing because Mary Linda Patterson Baker has met our Heavenly Father! She is catching up with those she loved who went before her- her husband’s parents, her parents, her brother, and many more as well as making many new friends. She never met a stranger. She would travel several states over and see someone she knew, and if she didn’t, she would know everything about a brand new friend in a matter of minutes. She was a loving sister and daughter, wife and mother, and in the past 18 years- a role she cherished Grams. During her last days, doctors, nurses, people who knew her only briefly came by to let her know she was a “ray of sunshine in this world.” Genuine of heart, feisty, passionate, a true teacher, Linda Baker loved the highest and lowest in the eyes of society. She used her time on earth to touch people- teaching Special Gifts children at Roswell St. Baptist, teaching parenting classes to young women in prison, raising foster children, teaching school at Norton Park, Teasley, Mableton, and Oakwood High School, and the list goes on. Instead of flowers, we are asking for books to be chosen and purchased for the library at Sawyer Road Elementary. She taught many children to read and would love knowing that her legacy continues. Monetary donations can be made to Sawyer Road Elementary Drama as she was the number one supporter. She will be missed in the front row. Loving wife, precious mother, and adored Grams- as sad as we are to see you go, according to Riley, you are 40 trillion times happier in heaven. She fought the good fight, and we won by loving her. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint”. Funeral services will be at Noon today, April 20, 2019 in the chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins, Historic Marietta Chapel, with burial in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.
