Mrs. Mary Virginia "Ginger" Sheahan Smith Hopp

‘Ginger’ Mary Virginia Sheahan Smith Hopp, 83, of Marietta, GA, surrounded by her children passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023 in her home. She was born October 21, 1939, in Charlotte, NC to her late parents, Mr. Hugh Parke Sheahan and his wife Mrs. Mary Westmoreland Sheahan. Ginger married her husband of 29 years, Robert Wilson Smith III, on November 30, 1957, in Atlanta, GA and “Bob” preceded her death in 1987. Also preceding her in death were her second husband of 12 years, Stanley M. Hopp, in 2006 and her brother John “Jack” Parke Sheahan also in 2006. Ginger is survived by her five children; Robert “Rob” W. Smith, IV (Shirley) of Brookhaven, GA, Mary Leigh S. Krock (Wes) of Monkton, MD, M. Kevin Smith (Donna) of Crawford, GA, Courtney S. Piratzky, of Cumming, GA and Leslie S. Okun (Michael) of Gainesville, FL. Additionally she is survived by six grandchildren: Jordan Krock, Nolie Krock, John Piratzky, Morgan Piratzky, Jack Okun and Grace Okun and one great-grandchild, Malachi Gordon. Ginger worked at J.M. Tull until relocating to Memphis, TN with her husband Bob who was at the time starting his medical school training to become a rheumatologist. Ginger was a devoted full-time caregiver to her children and family. The young family first relocated to Augusta, GA followed by Denver, CO, Sandy Springs, GA, and then settled in their beloved home on the Chattahoochee in Dunwoody, GA in 1976. With her second husband, Ginger moved to Marietta, GA in 1996. Ginger was passionate about raising funds for the Arthritis Foundation. She served as a Board Director and planned many of their events including their inaugural Gala. She attended Georgia State University, and worked for Kurt Adler at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. With Stanley, she worked for the Society for Insurance Research. Ginger adored regularly attending Rivergate Bridge Club, ELM, the F.A.N. Club, the Knit Wits group, and the McEachern Memorial UMC Searchlights class. She was considered a friend to everyone. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 28, 2023, beginning at 10AM at the McEachern Memorial UMC and funeral services will commence at 11AM with a reception to follow.
