MaryGrace Smith

MaryGrace Smith peacefully went home to be with Jesus early Tuesday morning, October 24, 2023. She was born on February 1, 1926 in Bowden, Georgia to Guy and Nelah Sherrill. They moved from Ranburne, Alabama to Tallapoosa, Ga when she was in the eighth grade and she graduated from Tallapoosa High School in 1944. There she met the love of her life, Floyd Smith. Following High School, she attended West Georgia College and received the two year business degree that was awarded at that time. She then moved to Atlanta and worked for an insurance agency while Floyd attended Southern Technical Institute. They married in 1949, and celebrated their 65th anniversary the June before Floyd passed in December. They enjoyed their life together raising three daughters, Sherran Nelah and Toni. Moving to East Marietta in 1956 and later located to West Cobb in 1968. They were members of Marietta First United Methodist Church from the time they moved here until they both passed. MaryGrace served on many committees including; altar guild, Irma Little circle, played piano for her Jack Aaron SS Class, helped with youth groups, choirs and dinners. She met and maintained many lifetime friends there and loved her church life. She also enjoyed many years with her friends in the Cherokee Garden Club and always loved having flowers in her home. Once her girls were grown, MaryGrace rejoined the work force and retired after 10 years from Cobb County Schools as a parapro. She was the ultimate mom, grandmama and GiGi. For many years she sewed everything her girls wore, prepared meals, transported her kids and grandkids where they needed to be. Shopped with each one at the holidays and enjoyed many family meals and holidays together. The great grands always got to “Rocky Rock” with GiGi in her chair as she sang them to sleep. She is survived by her daughters; Sherran Reeves (Rob), Nelah Gabler (Micheal), Toni Sheasby (Sam), six grandchildren, Lane Reeves (Liz), Tyler Reeves, (Ashley), Joseph Gabler, Nicholas Gabler, Megan Downer (RIchard), and Clayton Sheasby. Five great grands; Raiden, Barrett, EverlyGrace, MaryGrace, and Jackson, and many loved nieces and nephews, and friends. Visitation will be Sunday October 29th, 2-4pm at Mayes Ward Dobbins Marietta and Service at Marietta First United Methodist at 11am on Monday October 30.
