Maurine Kotter Bangert

Maurine Kotter Bangert, 92, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. She was born on September 28, 1933, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Horace Kotter and Harriet (Thomas) Kotter. Maurine spent her early years in Providence before moving with her family to Fort Worth, Texas. In 1960, she married Louis Bangert and they started their life of 65 years together. Maurine brought her son Gus Niver, from a previous marriage, and together they later welcomed daughters Sue Ann, Catherine, and Linda. Maurine’s greatest joy was being a devoted mother to all four of her children. Maurine is survived by her husband, Louis “Lou” Bangert; children Bert “Gus” Niver and his wife, Jenny Niver; Sue Ann Forbat and her husband, David Forbat; Catherine Cerra and her husband, David Cerra; Linda Tate and her husband, Zachary Tate; grandchildren Lauren Paver, Nicholas Niver, Sarah Posner, Rebecca Jussila, Marcella Cerra, Alexandra Cerra, Luke Forbat, and Hanna Knight; great-grandchildren Nora Niver, Carla Niver, Lucia Niver, Brendan Paver, Quinn Paver, and Fitzy Paver. Maurine was known for her generosity, charm, and sense of humor. A talented cook and enthusiastic entertainer, she ran a successful catering business for many years. She also had a remarkable ability to make any space beautiful through her love of decorating, gardening, and flower arranging. In all of her homes — in Atlanta, Seattle, and Los Angeles — she used her gifts to create welcoming, joyful places for family and friends. Maurine also had a wonderful gift for bringing people together. She planned many group events, including wine-tasting trips, baseball outings, and evenings at the Hollywood Bowl. She made organizing unforgettable gatherings appear effortless. Her family and friends will always remember her amazing events and her joy in creating special occasions. Throughout her life, and especially in her later years, Maurine was devoted to her pets. She cherished a succession of Labrador Retrievers, both purebred and mixed, whom she loved dearly. She cooked for them, talked to them, and they were always by her side, bringing her endless companionship and joy. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Maurine’s caregivers for their kindness and support. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church with Reverend Sarah Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends between the hours of 4 until 6 PM Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the funeral home.
