Melanie Lyle Sarris

Melanie Lyle Sarris, 67, of Kennesaw, GA, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Mayes Ward Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel with Fr Panayiotis Papageorgiou and Fr Michael Tishel with Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church presiding. Internment will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, GA. Melanie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Bruce Sarris of Kennesaw, GA; son, Nicholas Sarris (Lauren) and cherished grandson, Andrew Sarris, of Marietta, GA; son, Daniel Sarris of Kennesaw, GA; mother, Barbara Sudduth Lyle of Lena, MS; sisters Lisa Evers (William) of Ringgold, GA and Toni Bond (David) of Lena, MS; brother Joe Lyle of Benbrook, TX. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her father, John Marler Lyle. Born on September 24, 1957, in Carthage, Mississippi, Melanie was the daughter of Mr. John Lyle and Mrs. Barbara Lyle. She grew up in Lena, Mississippi, where she formed the foundation of a life filled with love, service, and dedication to others. A proud graduate of Leake Academy in 1975, she was eagerly anticipating her upcoming class reunion in April. After high school, she continued her education at Mississippi College and Mississippi University for Women, where she earned her degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology. On December 31, 1983, Melanie married her husband, Bruce. For over 20 years, Melanie made a significant impact as a Speech-Language Pathologist with Cobb County Schools, where she devoted herself to helping children improve their speech and communication skills. Her dedication to her work was recognized when she was honored as Vaughn Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year for the 2011-2012 school year. In recent years, Melanie found great joy in being a full-time Nanny to her beloved grandson, Andrew Sarris. She cherished the time spent caring for him during work hours for her son, Nick, and daughter-in-law, Lauren. Melanie was a woman of deep, devout faith in Jesus Christ, a faith that shaped the way she lived her life and how she interacted with others. She treated those around her with kindness, compassion, and love, always seeking to uplift and encourage. Her belief in the goodness of others and her ability to see the beauty in everything was evident to all who knew her. Melanie was especially devoted to her family, her love for them unwavering and fierce. She was an extraordinarily gentle, caring, and generous person who made a lasting impact on everyone she met. She had a passion for many forms of art, including calligraphy, painting, drawing, photography, and music. Her creative talents were matched only by her love for the beauty of the world around her, particularly nature. She had a special fondness for flowers, which she appreciated for their delicate beauty and their ability to bring joy to those who saw them. Melanie also developed a deep love for Korean culture and language. She formed lasting friendships with native Korean speakers and was passionate about learning from them while helping them improve their English language skills. A highlight of her life was a trip to South Korea in 2017, which she took with her two sons and daughter-in-law. She considered this trip to be her favorite vacation, a memory she cherished deeply. Throughout her life, Melanie was committed to serving in various church ministries. She was involved in youth ministry, administrative work, various committees, and the church choir and hand bell groups. In the past year, she had been attending Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Marietta, preparing to be received into the Orthodox Church. Her commitment to her faith and her community was a true reflection of her love for God and others. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to a charity of your choice as this is what they feel Melanie would have wanted done in her memory.
