Michael Andrew Riley

Michael Andrew Riley passed away unexpectedly on February 3, 2023, at the age of 63. Mike was born on New Year’s Eve 1959 at the East Orange General Hospital, East Orange, NJ and had the distinction as the last baby born at the hospital that night. Mike attended Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange, NJ and graduated in 1977. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Bentley College, Waltham, MA. After graduation he began his career as a Sales/Marketing Representative for Quaker Oats. While in this role, he became involved with computers and developed a keen interest in learning more about computer technology. He went on to earn a Certificate in Software Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, MA which led to a long and successful career in this field, working for companies located in Massachusetts, Florida, and Georgia. Mike had many interests in his lifetime, one of which was skiing. He met his wife, Kathy, at a ski house rented with a group of friends for the winter, in Killington, VT. What began as a great friendship eventually evolved into marriage on May 11, 1991, and they have shared a life full of love, laughter, and so many wonderful adventures. He and Kathy love the outdoors and hiking throughout the years…most recently the Cohutta Wilderness in the North Georgia Mountains. Mike and Kathy also participated in the annual 10K Peachtree Road Race over the past 10 years, although Mike was the true runner in the family! Mike also had a passion for things with motors…Harley Davidson motorcycles, Lionel trains, and especially classic cars! He was a car enthusiast and owned a wide variety, including a 1969 Corvette, several Camaro’s, and multiple Mustangs. Ever curious, he learned about Mustangs that were used specifically by law enforcement agencies during the 1980’s and early 1990’s. He created a website called SSPMustang.org, dedicated to these vehicles. Mike and Kathy enjoyed traveling to car shows in multiple states and meeting up with fellow group members. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Riley, of Marietta; his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Marty Konkus, of Point Pleasant, NJ; his brother and sister-in-law Steven and Jane Riley, of Mount Laurel, NJ. Other survivors include his wonderful nephews and their spouses; Brian and Pippa Riley, Matt Riley, and TJ and Becky Riley; as well as many special cousins and very dear friends. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, Marietta, at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 17th, to be followed with a reception at the church. Mike was truly a wonderful husband and a good man. He will be greatly missed and remembered forever.
