Nancy Anne Peabody

Nancy Anne Cantrell Peabody, 73, passed away May 3rd, 2016. A funeral service will be held at McEachern United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 7th at 11:00am with Rev. Joe Peabody Jr. and Dr. Jim Lowry officiating. A burial service will be held 2:30pm Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen, Georgia following the funeral service. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Joe Peabody Sr., of Conyers; her sons, Rev. Joe (Allison) Pittman Peabody Jr., of Covington and Rev. Andrew "Andy" Peabody of Conyers; her sister, Betty Howell, of Tucker; her two grandchildren Parker and Ashton Maddrey; as well as several nieces and nephews. Anne was born in Bremen, Georgia, to George Allen and Emmie Stanford Cantrell. She was raised in southwest Atlanta, graduating from Sylvan High School in 1960 and Georgia State University in 1964, where she majored in English; later earning a Master’s in Education Degree from the University of Georgia. She was baptized and confirmed in the Mary Brannon United Methodist Church and was active at both Camp Glisson and Indian Springs Holiness Campground (where she came to know the man she would marry).Anne married Joe Pittman Peabody of Decatur on June 6, 1964. Two sons – Joe Jr and Andrew – added immeasurably to their life together.As a clergy spouse, Anne lived, successively in Ellenwood (Ellenwood UMC, Mt Zion UMC, Anvilblock UMC), Dalton (Dalton First UMC), Augusta (St Andrew UMC), Winterville (Winterville UMC), Roswell (Peachtree Road UMC), Powder Springs (McEachern UMC), Gainesville (The Gainesville District), Norcross (Norcross First UMC), Marietta (First United Methodist Church of Marietta), Dalton (Dalton First UMC), Roswell (Mt Zion UMC), and – after her husband’s retirement – in Conyers, Georgia.Across those years, Anne taught in both the Fulton County school system (Hapeville High School, Ridgeview High School, Roswell High School) and Cobb County school system (Osborne High School, McEachern High School), as well as at Athens Academy. She also used her teaching gifts in the local church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and various women’s Bible studies. Family will receive friends from 5pm to 8pm on Friday, May 6th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory - Macland Chapel, in Powder Springs, GA. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Peabody invites you to make donations to Rockdale Emergency Relief, Rockdale Emergency Relief, PO BOX 80369, Conyers, GA 30013 in support of their Summer Lunch Program or to Salem United Methodist Church, Covington, GA 30016 toward debt retirement on the Family Life Center.
