Norma Jean Ludwick

Norma Jean Maddox Ludwick age 92, of Marietta, Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 27, 2026. She was born on Wednesday, June 7, 1933, in Carrollton, Georgia to her mother, Mable Florence Wilson Maddox and her father, Norman Lee Maddox, who were both from Carrollton. She lived her younger years in Austell Georgia and graduated from Austell High School in 1952. She landed her first job at Fort McPherson in the accounting dept. There she met her future husband, Donald Fraser Ludwick from Marietta, GA. They dated for 7 months before he proposed to her. They were married on Saturday, April 9, 1955, in Austell, Georgia at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church. Her best friend Sibble Luttrell was her maid of honor and Jean McAlphin Ludwick was the best man. St James Episcopal Church in Marietta was the family’s home church for over 70 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the King there at St James in the early 70’s. She was employed by Curtis 1000 for several years before she was employed at Lockheed Martin Marietta where she retired after 23 years of service. There she met her lifelong friends who cruised and travelled together to Europe for many years. She most enjoyed gardening, decorating and spending time with her beloved family. Her constant companions were her beloved pets named Millie, Pepper and Dixie. Jean and Donald Ludwick shared 47 wonderful years of life together before he passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2003. Her memory and legacy will live on through her surviving family and friends. Her brother Dannie Maddox from Austell, Georgia, her daughters and their spouses: Cynthia (Cindy) Hunter from Kingsport, Tennessee, Angela Meyer and her husband David from Powder Springs and Susan Portier and her husband Danny from Marietta, Georgia. Her grandchildren are Ashley Leonard, Jessica Portier, Joshua Portier and his wife Chandler and Timothy Meyer. Her great grandchildren are Lacy and Jackson Leonard and Cooper Portier. Closest nieces and nephews are Elaine McManus, daughter of Lavaine Maddox, Tena Pendergrass, daughter of Patsy Barron, Bonnie Maddox Jones, Jimmy Maddox, Lora Norwood and Joey Maddox children of Bobby Maddox. Stephanie Zervas daughter of Betty and George Zervas, Chris and Karen Ludwick children of Phil and Jo Ludwick. Also, there are many nieces, nephews and friends, too many to name that she also loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her mother Mable Maddox, her father Norman Maddox, her brothers Lavaine Maddox, Bobby Maddox and her sister Patsy Barron and her beloved husband Donald Ludwick. Norma Jean Ludwick’s immediate family will receive family and friends at Mayes Ward Funeral Home, located on the historic Marietta Square, 180 Church Street for visitation on Sunday March 1 from 4 to 6 pm and Monday, March 2 from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, before her funeral at the funeral home. Come by to pay your respect to Norma Jean Ludwick, to say hello, share a memory, or a warm hug. Her funeral service will be held at St James Episcopal Church at 161 Church St, Marietta, GA 30060 on Monday, March 2 at 2:00 pm with Mother Mariclair Partee Carlsen officiating the ceremony. Her burial service will immediately follow the ceremony at: Marietta City Cemetery 420 West Atlanta St SE, Marietta, GA 30064
