Olga A. Klein

Olga Klein was born in New Haven, Connecticut on December 21 and passed away on January 23, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6th, 2016 in the Chapel at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. Interment will take place at a later date. Her first born, Christine, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, William C. Klein Jr. (Kate) of Marietta, Christopher Klein (Carol) of Dallas, Janice Cairns (James) of Clarkston, Claudia Worley (Robert) of Marietta, Donna Bean (Jeff) of Coral Springs, Florida and Eric Klein (Melissa) of Kennesaw; 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Ms. Klein enrolled in the nursing program at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford after graduation in 1942. She became a Cadet Nurse in 1943. Part of her training included serving at St. Albans Naval Hospital in New York during World War II. One of Ms. Klein’s patients was her future husband, William Klein who was wounded as a sailor on a destroyer. The couple married in 1945. The same year, Ms. Klein graduated from the nurses’ program at St. Francis. After they got married she worked at Polyclinic Hospital in New York. Later, when they moved to Connecticut, they both worked at the Taton Zipper Company. Olga was the night shift nurse on staff. While working at St. Raphael’s Hospital, she juggled raising 7 children with taking part time classes to earn her bachelor’s degree at Southern Connecticut State College in nursing. Olga received experience in many different disciplines, from mental health and orthopedics to infectious diseases. The family moved to Kalamazoo Michigan where she eventually retired from the VA Hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan in 1991. Olga then moved south to Georgia where many of her children had settled. Olga enjoyed playing bridge, participating in the Acworth Kiwanis Club and spent many hours volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul thrift store before moving to Greenwood Place in Marietta. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Kennesaw. She loved to dance and sing songs in Italian. Olga was well known for her ability to recite long stories from memory. Her philosophy in life was “Jump in and do it. Don’t ponder over it.” The family requests that donations be made to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, 1000 Cir 75 Pkwy SE # 45, Atlanta, GA 30339.
