Oscar Edward "Ed" Honea

Oscar Edward, “Ed”, Honea was born March 26, 1946. He lived in Marietta for much of his life, moving to Kennesaw later in retirement years. He was a graduate of Marietta High School, graduating class of 1965 Blue Devils. Ed, or Eddie as some called him in high school, was known for his fast cars and sometimes racing through the Marietta Square ducking down Lawrence Street to avoid a ticket or two. He would often be seen hanging out at The Strand and catching up on all the best movies or news. His three younger sisters always knew if ever anyone hurt or messed with them, thier big brother was sure to show up and take care of business. He always had their back, even into adulthood. Ed would eventually settle down to marry his wife, Carol. The two loved life together and enjoyed traveling with friends to Las Vegas or hitting the road to Florida to see and have fellowship with family. Ed loved Carol with all his heart and would often be found, later in life, asking his daughter to pick up anniversary or birthday cards and gifts for him to give. This year Ed and Carol reached 55 emerald years of marriage on July 6th. Ed was a workaholic, pulling long hours ensuring his family had all they needed. In his early days he worked for Lockhead Martin building airplanes. He loved working on and repairing cars running Frank Rogers Service Station on weekends. He would eventually land a job at Cobb Electrical Membership Corporation, (Cobb EMC). He worked there moving up in the ranks starting as a bill collector in the field to moving on to become a lineman and finally finding his talent was within the apparatus shop. Ed was honored to work thirty-five years there, retiring a few years after helping build out the new apparatus shop. Ed enjoyed taking his boat out, fishing with his children and camping on staycations. He served many years in the churches attended; Austin Avenue Baptist to Mt Arbor Baptist when the family moved. He loved Jesus and loved people. Ed served with the RA’s and taught Sunday school. As his children reached high school age, he enjoyed serving with the band boosters at McEachern High. Ed taught his kids to be hard working and how to honor God in the day to day. He showed his children how it was to live like Christ and share God to all they met along the journey of life. Ed never failed to tell the kids he loved them. He made sure to always share a kiss on the cheek to his baby girl after each visit. If ever she was about to rush out without the peck on the cheek, he’d call her out on it. He taught his son all the manly things a man needs to know, as well as every trick to defensive driving and how to treat a lady. His children knew if ever a need should arise, it was always safe to call Daddy for help or advice at any time of day or night. As he retired from Cobb EMC, he would be found in the garden plowing and planting many vegetables for the eating. He entered retirement in his early 60s and embraced that morning coffee on the back porch daily. He worked hard outside maintaining the garden and ensuring his yard was the greenest on the block. He loved nature and listening to the birds while watching the deer and rabbits about his property. In retirement he also adopted his fur child RV. RV would soon become his confidant and best buddy. The two were inseparable. Ed was known by many as a gentle giant, loving big and giving bigger. If you knew Ed, you would be blessed. He was a legend and one of a kind. When God made Ed, he broke the mold. Ed loved his grandchildren and was eager to spend time with them. He often would be heard asking how this grandchild or that grandchild was doing. Ed lived a life full of love, passion, honestly, integrity, kindness, gentleness, joy, peace, patience, and self-control. He was a man of his word and lived according to the word of God. Even over his last few years with declining health, he remained faithful. Ed will forever have a piece of the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
