Padma Sheela Mirmira

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Padma Sheela (Sheela) Mirmira on November 26, 2024. Sheela fiercely fought a courageous battle with cancer and left us too early at age 50. Sheela dedicated her career to raising money for non-profit organizations including Tobacco-Free Kids, AARP, National Council on Aging, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Her fierce passion and “go get them attitude” was instrumental for these organizations to serve many deserving people. An accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, Sheela had a passion for her Indian culture and the arts. She was a Disney afficionado joining Disney for several summers as an intern while always embodying the Disney spirit of Jasmine from Disney’s Aladdin. Sheela’s love of Disney is something we will remember with love and fondness. What truly defined Sheela, amongst all her accomplishments, however, was her profound dedication to her family as a wife, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and aunt. She took tremendous pleasure in family gatherings, hanging out with her cousins and friends, and sharing in the lives and celebrations of those closest to her. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her husband, Jeff, cooking and watching movies in her home. They both shared a love of travel and adventure. Most of all, Sheela was completely devoted to her four nieces. She treasured moments big and small as they all grew up into amazing young women - and they were always excited to spend time with their Auntie Sheela/Sheela Attai. Her legacy lives in them - in their independence, fierceness, passion, and compassion. Sheela is survived by her husband, Jeff Carson; her parents, Shantha and Govind Mirmira; her brothers, Raghu (wife Veena) and Vasu (wife Rekha) Mirmira; her beloved nieces Priya, Anjali, Preeti, and Rani Mirmira; and her beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. A celebration of Sheela’s life will be held in the Chicago area on Saturday, December 21st (final details will be forthcoming).
