Pauline Bonapfel

Pauline Emma Marie Wetzeler Bonapfel, 89, died on Christmas Day of natural causes. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on March 22, 1925 to Rev. Walter R. and Frieda Wetzeler. She grew up in the parsonage at St. Matthews Church in Elmwood Place, OH and graduated from Hartwell High School. She received a degree in history from Elmhurst College in 1946 and taught sixth grade in Cincinnati until her marriage to Robert H. Bonapfel in 1949. After living in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Youngstown, OH; Mayfield, KY; and Birmingham, AL, the family settled in the Atlanta area in 1957. Pauline was a friend to all she met and relished in sending letters and cards to her friends and family. She was an active and dedicated member of East Point Presbyterian Church and then of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. She was a member of PEO and held leadership positions in the Parent-Teacher Associations at Kathleen Mitchell Elementary School and Lakeshore High School. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert H. Bonapfel and son Robert L. Bonapfel. She is survived by her sister Carolyn Wetzeler Bode (Dave) of Cincinnati; son Paul Walter Bonapfel (Barbara) of Atlanta; daughter Jane Ann Bonapfel Mitchell (Joe) of Sautee; her grandchildren Anthony Thomas Mitchell (Angie) of Suwanee; Robert Matthew Mitchell (Melissa) of Fairfax, VA; Edward Paul Bonapfel (Lauren) of Atlanta; and Elizabeth Marie Bonapfel of Berlin, Germany; step-granddaughter Cynthia Mitchell Bonner of Charleston, SC; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren. She had a deep and abiding love for every one of them and delighted in watching them grow and participating in their lives.
