Phyllis Ann Palmer

Mrs. Phyllis Ann Poczatek Palmer, age 81, of Marietta, GA passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicago, IL, on January 9, 1939, Phyllis was the youngest of five daughters born to Joseph and Loretta Gerold. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Walter (Wally) L. Poczatek Palmer, father of her four children. Wally passed away in 1997, shortly before their 39th wedding anniversary. Phyllis is also preceded in death by her husband of fourteen years, John Brugger, her parents, Joseph and Loretta Gerold, sisters, Fran Wurster and Dorothy Tillich, and brother-in-laws, Nils Colliander, and Ray Wurster. Left to cherish her memory are Phyllis’s four children, Thomas Palmer(Linda), Sharon Foster (Paul), Judy Swaim (Mike), and John Palmer (Sheri), as well as her 8 grandchildren, Dillon Swaim, Ben Swaim, Jake Swaim, Andrew (Amber Kay) Palmer, Garrett Palmer, Brent Foster, Alex Palmer Gables (Jeremy), Walt Palmer and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters, Marian Colliander of Schaumburg, IL, and Bernie (Bill) Knebelsberger of Tucson, AZ, as well as 21 nieces and nephews. A native of Chicago, IL, Phyllis and her family relocated to Georgia in the 1960’s. Phyllis was always active from being the president of the PTA, Fall Festival Coordinator, President of Acworth Garden Club, Brownie Troup Leader, Girl Scout Cookie chairman, and youth basketball coach. She worked at BellSouth as an administrative assistant and also owned her own retail business in Acworth, GA. After her retirement, Phyllis enjoyed traveling, playing golf, playing cards and loved being at the lake with her family. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta, GA and attended faithfully until she was physically unable to attend. Phyllis enjoyed golf regularly after retirement with the Foxy Golfer group and loved the cherished friendships she made with her fellow golfers. She loved life and lived life to the fullest with amazing grace, courage and strength as she battled Ovarian Cancer for 21 years. Visitation will be held at 11:00 on September 25, 2020, at the Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home located at: 3940 Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA, 30127. Deacon Bruce from St. Joseph Catholic Church will be officiating the service. The service will follow at 12:30pm.
