Rajaan Jhakari Bennett

Rajaan Jhakari Bennett, 18 of Powder Springs died on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Trinity Chapel Church of God in Powder Springs with Dr. Mike Woods and Mr. Andrew Guerrier, Campus Director of FCA officiating. Burial will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Mr. Bennett was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He has been living in Georgia since 2000. Rajaan was a senior at McEachern High School and excelled in academics and sports. He was an outstanding student athlete at McEachern, a member of the Class of 2010. Rajaan had a 3.8 GPA as well as an All-State Running Back on the football team. Some of the many accolades and awards Rajaan earned were: Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year; Marietta Daily Journal All-County Running Back; Cobb County Touchdown Club Offensive Player of the Year; Atlanta Journal Constitution First Team All-State Running Back; AP First Team All-State Running Back; Touchdown Club of Atlanta All-star Team; Cobb County Senior Bowl; North/South All-Star Game and Touchdown Club of Atlanta Running Back of the Week. Rajaan signed a football scholarship February 3rd with Vanderbilt University to continue his academic and football career. In addition to being an outstanding athlete, Rajaan was a mentor and leader to the students at McEachern and the community. Rarely do young people come along that possess the magical charisma that allows them to influence so many in such a positive way. Survivors include his mother, Narjaketha Bennett of Powder Springs; two sisters, Narcharlette Bennett of Powder Springs; Taelor Bennett of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one brother, Desyvon Bennett of Powder Springs; maternal grandparents, Elijah & Christine Hunter of Ruffin, SC and an uncle, Taiwan Hunter, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Contributions may be made to McEachern Endowment Fund for Rajaan Bennett Memorial, 2400 New Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Powder Springs on Friday, February 26th.
