Reavis Eugene “Gene” Morris, Jr., 78, of Kennesaw, GA passed away on Friday, January 10, 2019. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2019 with Rev. Joe Buckner officiating. The interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Gene is survived by his daughter, Gina Morris; sons, Shane Morris and wife, Pam, Ben Morris, Rem Morris and his wife, Melissa. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, a niece and nephew. As a very young boy, Gene started working as a cashier in his father’s café. He also worked hanging tobacco, a lifeguard, a welder and also learned small engine repair with his father. He went on to serve in the National Guard and then moved to Marietta to attend Southern Tech where he started working for Lockheed. While working at Lockheed he turned his favorite hobby into a career when he started Morris Manufacturing Co., a metal fabrication plant in Marietta. He was instrumental in the development of the current Cobb County Sheriff’s office reserve unit. Over the span of his lifetime he volunteered for the Sheriff’s department and his favorite role that he served was a volunteer instructor. This passion led to a full-time training position until his retirement. Gene was a member of the Jaycees, over 30 years with the Kiwanis, over 35 years on the North Georgia State Fair Board, the Boys and Girls Club of America and the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Home. He enjoyed regularly attending Roswell Street Baptist Church. He had a passion for serving others through cooking and did so for civic and political fundraisers, Church Wednesday night suppers and so many more over the years; often times for groups of 300 or more. His passions also went into hunting, fishing, playing the guitar, piano, wood working, daily crosswords and local politics. He had a unique fascination with bridges, and he loved to tell a good story. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel.
