Rev. Comer Lee Brownlow

Rev. Comer Lee Brownlow died at Budd Terrace on April 19, 2011. The service to celebrate his life will be on Friday, 2:00 PM, April 22nd at First United Methodist Church, Marietta, GA with visitation following the service in the Family Life Hall. Dr. Tom Davis, Rev. Michael Ritter and Dr. Cyndi McDonald will officiate. Honorary pallbearers at the church will be the Jack Aaron Sunday School Class and ministers and spouses of the North Georgia Conference. Visitation will be immediately following the funeral service at the church. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home will be in charge of funeral arrangements. Burial will be at 1 PM on Saturday, April 23rd in Riverside Cemetery, Macon, GA next to his wife, Mary Elizabeth Sandefur Brownlow with Rev. Michael Ritter, husband of Rev. Brownlow’s granddaughter, Laurie Ritter, officiating. As a United Methodist Minister, Rev. Brownlow served the following United Methodist churches: Palmetto UMC, Chipley (now Pine Mountain UMC), Fayetteville UMC, Hogansville UMC, Stone Mountain UMC, St. Mark UMC in Augusta, East Lake UMC in Atlanta, Faith UMC in Smyrna, St. Matthew UMC in East Point, and Marietta First United Methodist Church. He was the pastor of East Lake UMC when it became the first fully integrated United Methodist church in the conference, 1967. While in Augusta, he served as President of the Augusta Ministerial Association. Following retirement he stayed active in the Evangelism Explosion Ministry and also served Underwood Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta for 4 years. During his ministry he served the conference for 7 years as Secretary of Commission on Town and Country Work and for 8 years he was the Conference Statistician. Rev. Brownlow was born on March 8, 1923, in White County, GA, living his early years in Gainesville and Toccoa, GA. He received an A.A. degree from Young Harris College, an AB degree in English from Florida Southern College, and a Masters of Divinity from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Bruce Lee and Marie Murray Brownlow of Lakemont, GA, a son and daughter-in-law Jere Sandefur and Kiki Carmichael Brownlow of Marietta, grandchildren include, Laurie Brownlow Ritter and her husband Rev. Michael Ritter of Fort Mill, SC, Lee Robert Brownlow of Stone Mountain, GA, Bruce Silas (Bo) Brownlow and wife, Sharon Fellers Brownlow, of Kennesaw, GA, Sandefur Brownlow Porter and husband, Matthew James Porter of Kennesaw, GA, two great grandchildren, Michael Dowling (Dow) Ritter, Jr. and Emmalee Grace (Emma) Ritter of Fort Mill, SC, and one sister, Valworth Garrison of Gainesville, GA.
