Robert "Bob" Williams

Robert “Bob” Bruce Williams 73 of Marietta, Ga passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017. Bob was born to Robert Williams and Jane Josserand Williams in Hutchinson Kansas in 1943 both deceased. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Historic Chapel in Marietta with Rev. David Chapman, Rev. David Wilson and Hylton Dupree officiating. Bob grew up in Larned Kansas where he graduated from Larned High School in 1961 and was the quarterback of the high school football team, ran track and played trombone in the dance band. He was an avid Boy Scout, Sea Scout, and Explorer. He later attended Hutchison Junior College where he played football and in the dance band there. Bob enlisted in the National Guard and during his service moved to Atlanta in 1964 where he began his 5 decade career in the automobile business. In 1965 he met his wife Ruth Fowler Williams. Bob and Ruth were married in 1965 and had their son, Derek Bruce Williams in 1968. Bob opened his first business in Marietta in 1973, a car lot and service station on the corners of Hwy 41 and Clay Street. For the next 4 decades he owned and expanded multiple new businesses including automotive service centers, tire stores, body shops and mini warehouses in Marietta. He was a member of East Cobb Rotary Club and adult advisor for Boy Scout Troop 1111. Bob enjoyed hunting and attending local sporting events. As a lifelong lover of music he regularly attended concert and performances across wide genres. He was an avid antique collector and was involved in numerous antique ventures. Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth, son, Derek Bruce of Asheville, NC, brothers, Stephen Charles (Sandralyn) of Hampton, Ga, Roger Ralph of Rapid City, SD , Gregory Warner (Judy) of Woodstock, GA; 1 niece and 3 nephews and one spoiled Yorkshire terrier Missy.
