Ronald Hugh Howren

Ronald Hugh Howren, 65, of Marietta, Georgia, passed from this life to the next on December 28, 2009. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 29 at 2 p.m. at Mayes-Ward Funeral Home, in Marietta, with visitation from 12 until 2 p.m. Mr. Howren is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 45 years Sandra P. Howren, his three daughters Valerie Lewis of Douglasville, Stephanie Howren of Marietta, Kelly Stewart of Kennesaw, a brother Gresham Howren & his wife, Lydia of Powder Springs, and three granddaughters Tatum Young, Macy Young, and Tamara Stewart, as well as a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ron was a lifelong resident of Marietta having graduated from Marietta High School in 1962 where he played in and served as Drum Major of the Marietta Blue Devils Marching Band. In addition, he played numerous sports and in 2008 was inducted into the Marietta High School Sports Hall of Fame recognizing him for his prowess on the gridiron. He attended Georgia State University where he received a degree in accounting and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. In 1970 he graduated from the Lockheed Apprenticeship Program. Among many notable accomplishments, Ron served as the President of the Marietta Girls Club and was President of the Marietta-Metro Rotary Club and in 1979 was honored as the “Rotarian of the Year”. He pursued his career as a CPA and was a partner with Weiss, Moore, Cubbage, and Howren before serving as a partner with the firm of Howren & Cantrell. Ron was also a home builder, developer and Real Estate broker in Cobb County. His accomplishments while many; can only describe the things he did. But the things he loved to do… like strapping himself into the cockpit of his plane on a cloudless morning… or meeting his regular buddies for 18 holes at the Marietta Country Club…these are things that tell you who he was. And now, Ronnie is in a better place…where the skies are blue, there’s always a tail wind…and the greens roll fast and true. He will be missed.
