Russell E. Blackwell

Russell Everett Blackwell “Russ”, 72 of Marietta, GA passed away peacefully on October 6, 2017 at WellStar Kennestone hospital. Russ was born on March 21, 1945 to the late Mr. Everett H. Blackwell and Mrs. Elaine Odessa Clarke Blackwell of Harlem, New York. Russ grew up in New York City where he attended Brooklyn Technical High and graduated with honors in 1962. He continued his education attending the City College of New York, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in engineering and further graduate studies at Pace University. Russell was married to Paula Douglas Blackwell for 24 years and was a devoted and loving husband. Under the leadership of Pastor Eric Beckham, Russ attended Zion Baptist Church in Marietta, GA and enjoyed the spiritual and “learn it” atmosphere. Russ enjoyed a professional career as an Information Technology and Telecommunications Executive, with leadership roles in Fortune 500 companies to include RCA and MCI/WorldComm. In his later years, as an entrepreneur, Russ continued to excel in his profession as an Information Systems Consultant securing clients like the VA, the Department of Health and Human Services and Paradigm Solutions Corp. Russ and Paula loved to travel and explore new places together; with a passion for beautiful Caribbean destinations and relaxation. He was very competitive and enjoyed racquetball, tennis and billiards. Known by all of his friends as a “great dancer”, he loved an array of music from contemporary dance, R&B and Jazz, as well as, classical music. Russ leaves to hold dear his memory a loving wife, Paula Blackwell of Marietta, GA., one daughter, Yvette Harcum (Will), two grandson’s Nicholas and Christopher Nevels of Randallstown, MD., one brother, Warren Blackwell Sr. (Ada) of Stone Mountain, GA.; Warren’s children Warren Jr, Corey of San Jose CA., Tanya, Adren, and Starlyn of Atlanta GA., as well as, 12 great- nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Russ will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and sharing in conversation; especially the laughter. His memories will live and endure in our hearts forever. We gratefully extinguish the torch representing the life of Russ Blackwell a wonderful husband, great friend and a “good man”; for by faith, we are assured he witnessed a new dawn on October 6, 2017.
