Ruth Weber Curtis

Ruth Curtis passed away peacefully with family by her side August 31, 2014 after an extended battle with Parkinson’s, diabetes and lung cancer. Our family rejoices with Ruth as Jesus took her by the hand to her eternal home to live with her Father in Heaven and all her loved ones who preceded her. She was born in Bridgeport Connecticut in 1926. Moved to Winter Haven, FL in 1952 and resided there until 2001. She also resided in Bonita Springs, FL 2002, and in the Atlanta, GA Metro Area for the past 12 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Winter Haven, where she sang in the choir and participated in many of Grace’s ministries during the past 50 years she was in the area. She raised two children, Glenn and Janet. Ruth was an executive secretary for State Farmers Markets in Florida, Fruits and Vegetables Division based in WH. After retiring, she spent time traveling with friends and family. She always loved a new adventure and was fortunate enough to travel to many different destinations. She enjoyed playing tennis, square dancing, bowling, hosting and attending parties. She was a member of the Winter Haven Pilot Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merritt Curtis; parents: William and Helen Weber, Siblings: Fred, Erny, Helen, and Walt Weber. She is survived by her loving children: son, Glenn Curtis (Julie), daughter, Janet Curtis Carlton (Rick) and Grandchildren: Jasmine, Max, and Dylan Curtis, Christina Carlton Rosell (Eduin) and Christian Carlton - Great Grand Children: Penelope and Rex Rosell. There will be two services to celebrate Ruth’s life. One service will be held in Georgia and the other in Winter Haven, Florida. On Thursday, September 4, at 7 p.m., a simple memorial celebration of life service will be held at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home in Powder Springs, GA. The Florida funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 321 Ave C SE, Winter Haven, FL with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in memory of Ruth to Grace Lutheran Church Children’s Ministry Fund. Our family thanks the Rose of Sharon Personal Care Home owners for their loving care of Ruth and Wellstar Community Hospice who helped us during these final days. We thank Mayes-Dobbins Ward and Crisp-Coon Funeral Homes for their services.
