Sally Mae Qualls

Sally Mae Qualls, 80 received her ultimate freedom on July 4, 2017 as the fireworks exploded when she entered the heavenly gates to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sally battled a courageous fight with Alzheimer's for the past several years but on the 4th of July she became independent of all her sickness and disease. A native of St. Louis, MO, she was born July 12, 1936 to the late Elmer and Cora Elam. She was the little sister to her surviving brother Uncle Kenny and the late Burt Elam. Sally met and married her sweetheart Bill Qualls and most recently celebrated their love of 60 years. Bill and Sally shared three wonderful children and worked hard for her family in Memphis, TN. Sally worked for 25 years in various secretarial jobs but she spent the majority of her adult life being the wife to Bill and Mama to Keith, Kristi, and Kim. She and Bill later moved to Georgia and she spent most of her time taking care of the Qualls family as a great cook, homemaker and gardener. She enjoyed cooking her favorite southern meals for her family but also made time for her church family at Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta and tennis partners. She may have been a soft spoken petite lady but she was a strong tennis champ! She was such a dear friend to many and loved most of all by her family. Services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday July 8, 2017 in the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Chapel on the Square in Marietta. The Qualls family will be present at 1:00 to greet friends and family prior to the Memorial Service. Dr. Charles Sineath and Rev. Ken Ellison will conduct the celebration service of Sally's homecoming. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, William (Bill) Qualls; one son Keith W. Qualls (Carah) of San Antonio, TX and her 2 daughters Kimberly A. McQuaide (Bill) of Marlton, New Jersey and Mary K. Borders (Mark) of Kennesaw , GA.; one brother Ken Elam (Ellen) of St. Louis, MO. She is loved dearly and remembered most as "GaGa" by her 6 grandchildren, Steven Sexton (Courtney), Christopher Sexton, Taylor Qualls, Brendan Borders, Carson Borders and Harrison Borders. Most of all, she will be missed by Kristi's dog, Polly. Sally Mae's Memorial Service will be sweet and simple for such an extraordinary woman of God but she would like to be remembered most as the wife, Mama, GaGa and friend to those who loved her as a woman of grace and integrity who loved to not only care for her family but to others as well. Sally and her family would be honored in lieu of flowers to make a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001 or her local Marietta Salvation Army 202 Waterman St. SE, Marietta, GA 30060. If you are unable to attend visitation at 1:00 or the Memorial Service at 2:00 on Saturday July 8, The Qualls family would cherish your thoughts and prayers. As a family, our Mama was an angel on earth for a special time. When we count our daily blessings, we count Sally Mae Qualls twice.
