Sandra Chapman Parker

Sandra Chapman Parker, 83, of Dallas, GA, died on Friday, November 14, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Powder Springs, GA, with Pastor Chip Dean officiating. Interment will be at 10:30 AM on Friday at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Mom, momma P, nana, grandma, honey bunny rabbit – however you knew her, you knew an incredible lady. Nothing made her happier than having people gathered around the dinner table, in her home, enjoying a meal together. She was always ready to help in any way and loved to chat with you about anything or nothing, whether on the phone or in person. She had an unwavering faith and served her church family almost as much as her own. She served the Lord for over 50 years at Morningside Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA, as financial secretary, adding church secretary to her resume later. She was always ready with a budget report or bulletin and made sure administrative tasks were in order. During her time, she served with 7 pastors and 5 US presidents. She also led several youth groups, toured with several youth choirs, balanced family and work, and sold Amway on the side. She would always greet you with a smile, a ‘hello sweety’, and ‘do you need anything?’ Born in 1942 in Houston, Texas, she and her mother moved to Atlanta, GA, in 1956. They settled into the Morningside-Virginia/Highland area and soon began attending Morningside Baptist Church led by James P. Wesberry, Sr. She graduated from Grady High School. In 1959 she met a young Army National Guard private named Gene Parker. Mysteriously, her left rear tire was always losing air and she would take it to the gas station Gene worked at to check it out. They soon started dating and were married on November 24, 1961, or as dad would say, ‘the day before Christmas, one month early.’ Aside from her family and friends, one of her biggest joys was when she joined First Baptist Church Powder Springs. While she was unable to attend regularly, she always told everyone about her church home. And her church home ministered to her in her last years! Mrs. Parker is survived by her loving husband of sixty four years, E. Gene Parker; her two children, Larry Charles Parker (Rebecca) of Marietta, GA, Pamela Jean Parker of Dallas, GA; four grandchildren, Sarah Buce (Jacob) of Shelby, AL, Alex Parker of Woodstock, GA, Rowan Parker of Marietta, GA, Emmalin Parker of Marietta, GA; three great-grandchildren, Sofia Buce, Robert Buce, and Steven Gene Buce; various nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, on Wednesday at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, and again from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
