Shakuntla Ahuja

Shakuntla Ahuja, 86, of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Karnal and Chandigarh, India passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at her home with her family by her side. A Service will be held in her honor on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Mayes Ward Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, GA. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in Shakuntla’s name to WellStar Foundation at https://www.wellstar.org/community/foundation/donate. Shakuntla is survived by her daughter, Neera Bahl & son-in-law Vijay of Atlanta, GA; son, Ashish Ahuja & wife Dr. Ruby of Chandigarh, India; brother, Om Parkash Nagpal of Chandigarh, India; grandsons, Dr. Sumeet Bahl & wife Gayatri of Brooklyn, NY and Dev Ahuja of Boston, MA; great-grandson, Satya Patel Bahl of Brooklyn, NY; nephew, Anil Nagpal & wife Neerja of Chandigarh, India; niece, Anjali Chawla of New Delhi, India. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sriram Ahuja, and her parents, Ganga Ram & Lajwanti Nagpal Shakuntla Ahjua was born on Saturday, March 27, 1937, in Gojra, now in West Pakistan, to Ganga Ram & Lajwanti Nagpal. She married Sriram Ahuja on 6th May 1957 and they had forty-one wonderful years together until his passing in January 1997. Shakuntla obtained her degree in education, and she worked for many years as a principal of a high school while living in Ambala, India. She was a member of the Shri Ram Sharnam in India for 60 years. Shakuntla was also an active member in the Self Realization Fellowship for 27 years and the Greater Atlanta Vedic Temple for 18 years. She and Sriram also belonged to the Swami Dayananda Ashram in Rishikesh, India and her ashes will be taken there to join those of her husband, Sriram. Shakuntla would spend her time reading Vedas and other spiritual books, and liked to participate in anything that expanded her mind. She was a wonderful speaker, and her brilliant mind would shine with every word she spoke. Her greatest enjoyment in life, however, was cooking for family and friends. If you came to visit Shakuntla, you would always leave with a full stomach. She was truly a caregiver by nature. Her love of people was always apparent to everyone who knew her. Shakuntla was a very giving person, and she always did what she could to help anyone in need regardless of her own health challenges in her later life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and a friend. Her presence will be forever missed.
