Sharon Lynn Kordish, age 78, of Marietta, GA passed away on July 23, 2024. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 10:00am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta GA. Visitation will be held onThursday, August 8, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, GA. Sharon was born November 4,1945 in Bridgeport, CT and grew up in Fairfield, CT. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and John Vasas, her brother Jack Vasas, and her loving husband of 56 years, Stan. She is survived by her two daughters, Stefanie Kramer (George Kramer) of Marietta, GA and Jennifer Vogt (Rich Vogt) of Cumming, GA. Her proudest title was that of “Gigi” to her five grandchildren: Will, Susan, Tyler, Jackson and Cooper. Sharon graduated from Andrew Warde High School in 1963 where she played field hockey. After high school, she completed training to become a dental hygienist. It was in Fairfield, CT, at the Stop and Shop grocery store, that Sharon met the love of her life, Stan. They married in September of 1965, and moved to Marietta, GA where Sharon worked as a dental hygienist while supporting Stan as he pursued his engineering degree at Southern Tech and worked at Lockheed. Sharon worked as a dental hygienist until her mid 40s when she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. She then went to work for the Cobb County School System as a paraprofessional. In 1998, she and Stan moved to Hiawassee, GA where they enjoyed their time in the mountains gardening, feeding the birds and deer and exploring in their red jeep until they returned to Marietta in 2015. Whenever someone tells you that you sound just like your mother, most people would take it as an insult. It is the opposite for us. Whenever someone says that, we consider it one of the best compliments we could ever receive. Sharon was one of the most fun, positive, selfless, supportive, loving and caring people we have even known and we were blessed to call her “mom” and “Gigi.” Sharon’s optimism and passion for life truly came from the heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love and friendships that span many years and places. She made many lifelong friends throughout the years in Marietta at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, living on Creekview Drive and in Saddlebrook, teaching and while living in Hiawassee, GA. She loved her family and friends and cherished those relationships. Sharon was always the life of the party and loved to laugh and have a good time. She loved to sing and you could always find her and Stan on the dance floor. She truly lived life to the fullest. One of her favorite quotes was “Don’t sweat the small stuff”. We try to honor her memory by living in the moment and not worrying about things too much. Sharon loved everything about nature. At every house she lived in, she always had beautiful gardens filled with numerous flowers, vegetables and her favorite blueberry bushes. She always had numerous bird houses and bird feeders out for all different birds- hummingbirds and bluebirds were two of her favorites. She would spend countless hours cleaning and filling them. She also loved to watch all the deer families that frequented their backyard in Hiawassee and even the bears that came to snack on the sunflower seeds. The beach and her garden were her happy places. Sharon loved to visit their lifelong friends in Hilton Head and loved to collect shells. She would make all kinds of crafts from the shells she would collect on the beach. Even in retirement, she could not sit still. She loved to paint, quilt, make flower arrangements, baskets, pies and jams. Sharon was an avid reader and when she needed a break, you could always find her curled up with a good book and her beloved labradoodle, Izzy, by her side. Sharon was her family’s biggest cheerleader. You could always hear her cheering on the sidelines and shaking her can fillled with rocks. She spent countless hours at softball games, swim meets, tennis matches and other sporting events cheering for Stan, her girls and her grandkids. She was very active, always volunteering in numerous clubs and charities throughout her life, always wanting to give back. Sharon’s support continued on when it came to her grandchildren. It was not unusual for her and Stan to travel all over Atlanta to watch their grandchildren participating in different sports and activities - many times leaving one activity to rush across town to go watch another one. She loved her family more than anything else and never missed an opportunity to show it or make sure to let us know how much she loved, supported and believed in us. Sharon fought hard for the past few years through multiple physical ailments and dementia. But she always kept her sense of humor, faith and smile. We find peace in the fact that she is out of pain and up in Heaven, lovingly reunited with Stan and family and friends that have passed before. Although she is no longer physically with us, we know that she is still taking care of and watching over all of her family and friends from Heaven. Sharon was devout in her Catholic faith and it was a source of strength and comfort for her, especially towards the end of her life. She was a long time member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta, GA and Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.
